How to pronounce Laar?

I would think that it is left to the person in question and how his family has pronounced it, I would think that it would not be pronounced with a hard a sound such as the word bail or bale but instead be pronounced with a soft a such as the word all or ball. If you take the word look for instence its pronounced with a soft o sound when pronounced. I'm not a profesional when it comes the english launguage but it would seems to make sense to me considering the examples I've given. I don't know but I would love some inpute on the subject please and thanks
