How to pronounce Astrik?

Pronunciation of Astrik in I’m an American born Armenian. My parents were Armenian immigrants from Iran. Also known as Persia

In I’m an American born Armenian. My parents were Armenian immigrants from Iran. Also known as Persia, Astrik is primarily classified as a first name. It is pronounced as

Ast-gh-eek

"It’s an Armenian name used for girls. It’s pronounced the same way with both dialects of Armenian which are Eastern & Western. It was my Mothers first name & it’s also my middle name. The reason it’s spelled with an “r” instead of a “gh” is because back in the late 1950’s when my Mother immigrated to Michigan from Iran, spelling names that had letters in them that the English language doesn’t have was difficult! The Armenia alphabet consists of 36 letters, where the English only has 24. In English where two letters create a sound for instance “c & h” together gives you the “ch” sound for chair, in Armenian we have 1 letter for the ch sound, along with others. The “gh” sound is made by using the back of your throat, its sounds similar to clearing your throat! Close to the “kh” sound which is used in many words & names throughout the Middle Eastern languages. These two sounds don’t exist in the English language. I hope this all was clear, & hope it was a thorough explanation."

Type of Name: First Name
Origin: Armenian
Other spelling(s): Astghik
Meaning: Little Star
