The u and the ig are not precisely like English. The "u" is almost a schwa, I think. The -ig depends on whether you're northern or southern German. One says "ish" and the other says a more "ick" sound, where the official pronunciation falls somewhere between and is similar to Scottish "loch" or the effort of getting ready to spit.
