How to pronounce Koenig?

The correct pronunciation in the US is "kay-nig". Some people pronounce it as "ko-nig". Having the last name Koenig, I have heard several variations and misspelligs. "kay-nig" is correct and preferred, but "ko-nig" is O.K. when I am not in the mood to correct someone.

I have also heard Germans pronounce it as "ker-nik" or "ker-nig"

My great-grandparents were Koenig's and this is the way our family has always pronounced it but I've heard it pronounced KAY nig from other families in surrounding areas.
